  2. Lee, So sorry to hear the news about Sadie. There is never an easy way to say goodbye to a loyal and trusting friend who always loves you in spite of your good and bad days.

  3. I just now read about Sadie … I’m so very, very sorry to learn this – she was a beautiful girl :'(

It’s never easy to lose a member of the family; so many of us already know the grief and the aching heart you are having to deal with right now and we feel for you, hoping and wishing we could take some of that on ourselves to spare you some of your sadness and pain … we know we can’t. I know of no other animal that can teach us all we need to know about unconditional love; I’m certain Sadie taught all of you well.

It will take some time for the grief to subside; take all the time you need. The day will come when you will want to share what you learned from Sadie with another dog – that will be the best way you can honor Sadie’s life and her gift to you! 🙂

God Bless all in your household during this difficult time.

  4. I just came to your site because I have just discovered the Jack Noble series. And then I saw this.

In April they discovered cancer in the leg of my 5 year old dog Novia and we had to make a quick decision. We opted to remove her leg and give us a little extra pain free time. We know she is living on borrowed time and will likely not live out the year. It’s hard to know that but we shower her with attention, puppy rides and have broken a steadfast life long vow of no people food and let her finish most of our meals.

Our time with our pets is short and intense. They live in the moment and find joy in everything. We should be able to learn a great deal from our friends. I’m very sorry for your loss.

    1. Thanks, Michael. It’s been almost 5 weeks and I miss her daily. I hope Novia pulls off a miracle.

  5. I am so sorry to read of Sadie’s passing. Our dog, Snowflake has been suffering with an ear infection and we are concerned for his health.

  6. My deepest condolences to you. Over the past years animals have become a very dear part of my life and it always breaks my heart to hear of one that’s passed. She looked like a very lovable adorable friend and I am deeply saddened by your loss.

  7. What a beautiful dog, your Sadie was. So sorry to read about your Sadie. Pets are a
member of our family and we feel the loss just as like a relative passing. At least, that’s the way I felt when my dog passed. I’m truly sorry for your loss.

  8. You are in my thoughts & prayers since beautiful Sadie passed. My heart aches for your loss. Our beautiful girl Miss Precious is going to be eight & with bullmastiffs the usual life span is ten so we’ll be facing what you’re going through far too soon. I think she’ll be our last dog. Anyway, sending sympathy your direction. She will be missed.

    1. Thank you, Carolyn. Almost six months later I can say it was worth going through what we went through in the end to have the years we had with Sadie. Enjoy every moment with Miss Precious. And remember, sometimes the choice of getting another dog is not up to you. Sometimes they adopt you.

  9. Hi there, just wanted to tell you how very much I enjoy your Affliction Z series….I’m a major fan of that genre so it’s always a treat when I discover another talented author. Can’t wait for the next book-I read them in one go, lol, so I’m always ready for the next new book :)) Also, and please forgive me for the following comment but…. this is my first time on your site and well, when I saw this post my heart broke for you & your family. Know that it will get better and eventually you’ll be able to remember her and smile without that instant, knife-like pain in your heart. We lost one of our dear boys to mass cell cancer in 2008 and at first I couldnt even say his name out loud without bursting into tears (very embarrassing at work) but time does heal and we can now remember him with smiles and love (though your heart will likely hurt a bit forever). Your Sadie was absolutely beautiful. Our bully breeds tend to dig right into our lives and hearts very quickly -a wonderfully intelligent, funny, absolutely beautiful and loyal breed; they quickly become important and integral members of the family. We have another little guy (111 pound AM Bulldog) now and I know when his time comes my heart will shatter once again but -even knowing that, I wouldn’t trade one second of the time I get to spend with him…my most sincere and deepest condolences to you and your family on the passing of your Sadie.

    1. Thanks for the kind words, Chris. It’s been eight months now. I’m getting there, but sometimes still feels like yesterday. We still have Bella, the bully we rescued a year ago, and we adopted an American Bulldog mix puppy from the shelter and promptly named him Little Jack. It’s one of those things…you know what’s coming, but how could we live any other way?

  10. After sending you a quick note, I was exploring your website when I discovered thiese posts…the grief struck and the tears too. So sorry to learn of this passing of your Sadie . Forgiver typos, posting through watering eyes…
It’s so special to have had your Sadie and all the love in that experience…I know and can see by these notes the love continues. Hold onto that. Sending mine along with hugs for you and yours.

  11. My condolences for your loss. Dogs and man have a special bond. We have two aging (nearly 12) Springer Spaniels (brother and sister) and my wife and I try to spend as much time with them as we can dreading the day they’ll pass on.
